Eagle Tracking Project. The UNC Charlotte Center for Applied Geographic Information Science (CAGIS) has recently undertaken a project with Carolina Raptor Center (CRC) to develop a web based application to track the location of two bald eagles released last spring. The web site allows researchers and the general public to view the current location and migration paths of the eagles.
The birds were hatched in early March 2006 at Carolina Raptor Center and released in early June 2006. Siblings, Len and Lola are the first bald eagles born at CRC and the first born in captivity in North Carolina. The parents, unable to fly, are residents at CRC due to their injuries. Savannah, the female has laid eggs for several years but 2006 is the first year eaglets have hatched.
Since their release they have traveled extensively over eastern North America. To see the weekly, daily or hourly movements go to the web site below.
